Point Pleasant Beach offshore Grand Prix – Powerboat Race

New Jersey Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (NJOPRA) is an all volunteer, not for profit group. NJOPRA has been the host club since racing
started in Point Pleasant Beach some 40+ years ago.
There is probably no single race more famous than “The Benihana Offshore Grand Prix”. Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Stephen Reid has decided that it is
time to bring the excitement back to the “Beach”. May 22, 2016, the “2016 Point Pleasant Beach Offshore Grand Prix” will be back in Point Pleasant
Beach. The sanctioning organization for this event is OPA Offshore Racing Association, located in Brick, NJ.
Thursday, May 19, 2016, Race week-end kicks off with a “Meet the Racers” charity event at the Wharfside on Channel Drive.
Friday the Pit area opens in the Silver Lake Parking Lot on Arnold Avenue. Friday night there will be a “Meet the Racers” block party (4 to 8), in
town from Arnold Avenue at Route 35 South to the Elks Lodge, Point Pleasant Beach; there will be race boats, music and fun for the entire family.
Saturday, Pit Area will be open to the public. The Rotary will be hosting their 90th Anniversary Festival in the Pit Area with race boats, a beer garden,
live entertainment and much more. Boats go into the water for testing at Ken’s Landing on Broadway (10 to 3). Watch the racers take their all important
swim test at the Amethyst Beach Motel (Arnold Ave ) during the day. At 4:30pm there will be a parade of boats from Arnold Avenue heading north on
Ocean Avenue. The day concludes with a Fireworks display on the Boardwalk, sponsored by Jenkinson’s. There will also be a “Welcome Racers”
party at Jenkinson’s.
Sunday is “Race Day”. See the race teams prepare for the race behind the Wharfside on Channel Drive. Watch the race from the Point Pleasant Beach
Boardwalk. After the race meet the winning race teams back at the Wharfside. The week-end concludes with the Awards Ceremony at Martell’s on
the Boardwalk.
