Repairing Beauty – David Ambrose – A Mid-Career Retrospective

This exhibition presents the work of artist David Ambrose (Bound Brook, NJ). Throughout his career, Ambrose has been exploring elements found in or on architectural facades, interiors, or floor plans in his richly colored, intensely worked paintings on hand-stitched lace or pierced paper. Ambrose observes similarities between lace patterns and the tracery and stonework of the great cathedrals.
His work can be seen as a blending of the perceived “feminine” art of lacemaking and the “masculine” activity of building. The exhibition will run September 17, 2016 to January 16, 2017. A free gallery walk with the artist will be scheduled after the opening.
